What if you could feed all your neighbours and community every year?
Farm In A Box is, well a farm in a box, it utilises smart technology in order to be able to increase yield and growing times and can feed up to 150 people a well balanced diet for a year.

We have already seen a move back towards community orientated living with community garden projects, including turning front yards into gardens. Now this technology will allow councils, or more rural communities to set up a farm on a 2 acre plot and run it from a smart phone. Given the price is only $25,000-$45,000 that means with an initial contribution of $166 – $300 per person, a community initiative could be set up that would see everyone getting their fruit and veggies for the long term. (lets face it, Mum used to spend that much per week just on shopping)

We have seen a massive resurgence in the grass roots movement in recent times, and my belief is that by tying in smart technologies we are going to be returning to an time where food is sourced locally, if not grown at home and is a project run the entire community.

Other obvious benefits are in poorer communities, or areas where farm land is not yielding enough crops this tech could really change things, the biggest issue would be the upfront price point, but no doubt in time this will come down and other simpler versions will hit the market.

So, what do you think about putting a mini farm in your back yard?
